I began my career as a physician-scientist at Harvard Medical School and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. I have maintained a long-standing commitment to conducting research and developing clinical trials. My patients inspire me to continue to look for better cancer treatments.
My background as both a scientist and care provider means I have a deep understanding of the entire spectrum of cancer. I am able to delve into the science behind my patients’ unique diseases, create personalized care plans, and help them confront what can be the most difficult challenge in their lives.
My research has helped us develop a better understanding of the fundamental properties of cancer. With this important information, we can now offer our patients targeted therapies. These treatments are more effective and less toxic than chemotherapy or radiation therapy. We are also learning how an individual’s immune system can be harnessed to attack cancer. This is called immunotherapy and shows great promise for curing some diseases.
Cancer and its treatments can take an emotional and physical toll on patients and their loved ones. As an oncologist, I strive to provide my patients with the most-effective treatment for their disease while also providing resources to help them cope with the impact that cancer may have on other areas of their lives.
