Juan Manuel Schvartzman, MD, PhD

About Me

I am a board-certified medical oncologist who specializes in caring for people with cancers of the gastrointestinal system. These include colorectal cancer, pancreatic cancer, bile duct cancers, anal cancer, appendiceal cancer, and neuroendocrine cancers. I work with a team of medical oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists, and specialized nurses to provide the best possible care to my patients and their family.

I am also a researcher working to understand the molecular features that block cancer cells from differentiating. The aim of this work is to uncover ways to coax them to revert back to non-cancerous cells. I am also interested in cancers with mutations in metabolic genes and in early phase clinical trials for solid tumors. My goal is that these laboratory findings will lead to the development of personalized therapies for people with gastrointestinal cancers.

Clinical Trials

As home to one of the world’s top cancer research centers, Memorial Sloan Kettering is typically involved in more than 900 clinical trials at a given time. Currently, clinical trials focused on the conditions I treat are enrolling new patients. Most major health insurers offer plans that include MSK as one of their in-network providers. If MSK is in-network, it means all our doctors are too. Medicaid and New York State Medicare also provide benefits for care at MSK.
