As a hematologist working on the Adult Bone Marrow Transplantation Service, I care for patients undergoing stem cell transplantation. My colleagues and I treat patients undergoing autologous stem cell transplant (uses their own stem cells) and allogeneic transplant (donated stem cells). Patients receiving CAR T-cell therapy are cared for by our inpatient team and we strive to make patients feel at ease and educate them about the process and outcomes.

Currently, I am a physician-scientist with a research program focused on understanding the complications of bone marrow transplantation. My work has uncovered new cellular and cytokine pathways involved in one of the major complications affecting bone marrow transplant patients— graft-versus-host disease (GVHD). I have studied the risk factors for severe infection and developed novel diagnostic techniques which aim to predict and diagnose blood stream infections after BMT. In addition, my research projects focus on the relationship between the gastrointestinal microbiome and transplant outcomes, including graft-versus-host disease, immune system reconstitution, and severe infections.

I am from Brisbane, Australia, and completed my medical training there before moving to MSKCC in February 2018.
