Katja Pinker-Domenig, MD, PhD
Radiologist
My Role at MSKWe post reviews for MSK healthcare providers who have at least 30 patient experience surveys completed. If you do not see reviews for a provider, it may be because they do not yet have enough survey responses, or the provider may not be part of the group of healthcare providers included in the survey.
Only outpatient providers are included in the survey. Healthcare providers who only work in the hospital or in urgent care are not included in the survey. Pathologists or researchers who do not provide direct care to patients do not have reviews.

About Me
- Director, Breast Imaging MRI and Translational Research
I am a radiologist with subspecialty expertise in breast and oncologic imaging, disease management teamwork, and research in advanced medical imaging. Before joining Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK), I trained and practiced at the Medical University of Vienna in Austria for almost a decade. Due to my strong interest in cancer research that uses advanced imaging, I chose to join MSK in 2014 as a researcher.
I am proud to have been a part of the research community at MSK and the radiology team at Memorial Hospital since November 2017, as well as a professor of radiology at Weill Medical College of Cornell University since November 2020. I currently serve as the Director of Research and the Director of Breast MRI for the Breast Imaging Service in MSK’s Department of Radiology.

I have extensive expertise in all aspects of state-of-the-art breast imaging, including mammography, digital breast tomosynthesis, ultrasound, and MRI. Additionally, I am experienced in breast interventions.
One of my top clinical accomplishments is successfully using multiparametric MRIs (which give more detailed pictures) in routine patient care. This is a concept that I developed, investigated, and implemented in Vienna and further refined at MSK in order to achieve the most accurate breast cancer detection.
My goal is to promote the quality of clinical breast imaging worldwide. As such, I serve as an Executive Board Member for the nonprofit European Society of Breast Imaging. I also have co-authored several guidelines addressing all aspects of breast cancer imaging and am actively involved in the development of consensus and mission statements published in distinguished journals such as The Lancet Oncology.
I have earned an international reputation for cutting-edge research in breast imaging. My research, which has largely been funded by external sources (or extramural funding), has continued to advance scientific knowledge and clinical practice. My research interests focus on molecular breast imaging with advanced high-field/ultra-high-field MRI using multiple advanced MRI parameters and hybrid (combined) techniques, such as positron emission tomography (PET)-MRI with specific tracers and the application of AI in oncologic imaging. I aim to develop new imaging biomarkers in breast cancer so that they can be used to improve diagnosis, prediction, and prognosis in the clinical care setting. A special focus is to investigate multiparametric (which takes different types of pictures), multimodal (which combines techniques) imaging as a noninvasive tool to better understand the effectiveness and early response assessment of therapy, thus improving treatment interventions. I have published more than 200 peer-reviewed papers in breast and oncologic imaging.
I serve on several editorial boards for publications including BJR Open (as Editor-In-Chief) and the Journal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (as Deputy Editor). I am active in many committees with international organizations, including the American College of Radiology, European Society of Breast Imaging, and European Society of Radiology, International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine, and Radiological Society of America.
I am also a popular teacher at national and international conferences, where I have served as organizer, peer reviewer, and chairperson. In recognition of my accomplishments, I have been named a Fellow of the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine.
A radiologist is a doctor with special training in using imaging to diagnose and treat disease. Imaging includes X-rays, computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
