I am a medical oncologist with special expertise in genetic susceptibility to cancer and hereditary cancer syndromes. Along with recent advances in sequencing technology, we are learning more and more everyday about the genetics of patients with cancer. These findings impact not only the care of our patients, but also of family members who share their genetics.
I work with a multidisciplinary team of physicians, scientists, and genetic counselors to provide a comprehensive care plan for each patient and their family. Incorporating the latest discoveries in the field of cancer genetics, we address crucial questions ranging from personalized treatment for current cancer to screening and surveillance to prevent future disease.
My approach relies on an understanding that genetics and family relationships are deeply personal. I treasure long-lasting relationships with patients and their families, the privilege of getting to know each person, and the opportunity to create a plan together to combat this disease.

I am also a laboratory scientist who studies the process of tumor initiation and progression. Fundamentally, I build cancer models to address the central but elusive question, “what is cancer and how does it develop?” My research addresses the role of tumor susceptibility genes, as well as the contribution of transcription factors in altering the cellular landscape and allowing for the process of “transformation” (from normal cells to cancer cells). Understanding how cancer forms is a critical step in the development of novel therapeutic strategies targeting cancer. If you have ever wondered how your own cells could have transformed and what we can do about it, ask me — I would be happy to shed light using insights from my research!
Last but certainly not least, I provide inpatient care for patients with cancer who are hospitalized with an acute illness. Hospitalization is often very complex for patients with cancer and acute illness, both because of their underlying disease and because of the multifaceted aspects of their care. If this is the setting in which you and your family get to know me, please know that my team and I will do everything we can to get you through this juncture.

A clinical geneticist is a scientist with special training in diagnosing and treating genetic conditions. They can help explain your risk of getting a genetic condition that is passed on from parents to children.
