I am a psychiatrist who provides adolescents and young adults (ages 13-35) and their families with psychological support and education as they confront the challenges of a cancer diagnosis and its treatment. Adolescence and young adulthood are important life stages: During this time, one develops a unique identity and builds relationships with others as an individual.
I encourage my patients to view the cancer experience as a climb up Mount Everest, and I consider myself to be a member of their mountaineering team. An adolescent or young adult diagnosed with cancer may feel like the future is suddenly unknown and too vast to conquer — I work with my patients so they can find their own unique path to the summit.
Doctors at Memorial Sloan Kettering work as teams, with specialists from all different areas. This allows us to consider all your needs together, and to give you the best possible care.
