Nelson Moss, MD

I have specialty training in neurosurgical oncology from two leading cancer centers in the United States. These experiences gave me expertise in and a unique perspective on the most advanced techniques and newest treatments available to treat brain tumors. The portfolio of approaches I use during surgery include brain mapping while my patients are either awake or asleep, MR imaging, stereotactic navigation, brachytherapy, neuroendoscopy, and laser interstitial thermal therapy. I also offer stereotactic radiosurgery and other forms of non-invasive radiosurgery.

It is a very exciting time to care for people with brain tumors. New technologies and developments in treatments and techniques, such as advances in genetic sequencing, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy are revolutionizing cancer care. I have a research background in molecular biology and have long been devoted to understanding the genetic and epigenetic causes of tumor growth and metastasis. I am optimistic that our research will allow us to better treat and control many types of brain tumors.

I am also a part of MSK’s Brain Metastasis Center. This group provides exceptional team-oriented care to people with cancer that has spread to the brain. With our group’s vast and growing set of offerings for treating brain tumors surgically and with precise radiation and focused and investigational medications, our Center is uniquely suited to finding the best treatment for each patient. It is a privilege to offer my patients access to promising clinical trials and research approaches that may not be available elsewhere. 

Neurosurgery is understandably foreign to many people. My goal is to ensure that my patients and their families are well informed about their disease and its treatment. After meeting with me, I strive for my patients to have a full understanding of their options, to have an accurate idea of what each treatment involves, and to be confident about their care plan. I hope they can see the compassion, teamwork, and unwavering focus on curing each person we care for that is essential to everyone at MSK.

When I am not working, I love spending time with my family, running, swimming, and traveling.
