Nicola Fabbri, MD

About Me

I am an orthopaedic surgeon dedicated to the treatment of children and adults who have bone or soft tissue tumors located in the extremities, pelvis, and sacrum. I am part of a multidisciplinary team that includes other experts in this field (pathologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, and other surgical specialists) — all of whom share the ultimate goal of providing the best care to each individual patient. Team approach has substantially improved the prognosis of musculoskeletal cancer and particularly sarcomas.

Effective tumor removal without amputation is today possible in most cases through the use of a limb-salvage reconstructive procedure, with special emphasis placed on providing these patients with functional and long-term durable limb reconstructions. My clinical practice includes management of benign and malignant musculoskeletal tumors, and reconstructive surgery of the pelvis and extremities for neoplastic and non-neoplastic conditions including complex total joint revision surgery.

My primary research focus is to improve treatment outcomes for children and adults affected by musculoskeletal cancer. This entails designing more-effective cooperative strategies of treatment and optimizing results of surgical management, including both limb-reconstructive surgery and amputations. Areas of particular interest are massive skeletal and joint reconstruction, severe bone loss, and use of new porous materials to restore bone.

I am member of numerous national and international scientific societies related to musculoskeletal oncology. I have trained and mentored several specialists in this field from all over the world.
