W. Victoria Lai, MD

About Me

I am a medical oncologist whose practice is dedicated to caring for people with lung cancer. I work closely with other lung cancer experts, including radiation oncologists and surgeons, to develop a treatment plan for each patient that is tailored to their individual type of cancer, as well as their personal circumstances and wishes. I see patients at both the Rockefeller Outpatient Pavilion in Manhattan and MSK Basking Ridge in New Jersey.

Receiving a diagnosis of cancer is extremely scary for patients and their families. During their initial visits, we will spend as much time as needed to ensure that they have a full understanding of the disease and how treatments will affect their lives. My goal is for them to leave each visit feeling comfortable and confident in their team and care plan.

My research is focused on developing new therapies that can potentially improve treatment outcomes for patients with small cell lung cancer and other pulmonary neuroendocrine tumors. Over the past few years, there have been exciting developments in immunotherapy as well as efforts to develop targeted therapies, biomarkers, and new combinations of drug treatments in these diseases. At MSK, I conduct clinical trials that use all the above strategies, and we are constantly expanding our robust portfolio of clinical studies to bring novel and potentially more effective therapies to our patients.

Clinical Trials

As home to one of the world’s top cancer research centers, Memorial Sloan Kettering is typically involved in more than 900 clinical trials at a given time. Currently, clinical trials focused on the conditions I treat are enrolling new patients. Most major health insurers offer plans that include MSK as one of their in-network providers. If MSK is in-network, it means all our doctors are too. Medicaid and New York State Medicare also provide benefits for care at MSK.
