Caregiver Appreciation Month Events

In honor of Caregiver Appreciation Month, we would like to invite MSK caregivers to attend special events in November. Caregivers are welcome to attend all events or participate in some that they choose. These events are for those caring for people receiving treatment at MSK.

Wednesday, November 3

3:00 pm to 4:00 pm - Introduction to Caregiver Month
The Social Work R.E.A.C.H. for Caregivers program will give an overview of the support services available to caregivers at MSK, including the Caregiver Clinic. Dr. Allison Applebaum, Director of the Caregiver Clinic, will share tips to navigate the complex role of being a caregiver.

4:00 pm to 5:00 pm - Caregiving Through the Holidays
A panel discussion on caregiving and coping through the holidays, presented by members of the Patient and Family Advisory Council for Quality (PFACQ) and the Social Work R.E.A.C.H. for Caregivers program.

5:00 pm to 5:30 pm - Caregiver Resources Discussion
The Social Work R.E.A.C.H. for Caregivers program will offer discussion around resources and support services available to caregivers at MSK.

Tuesday, November 9

6:30 pm to 7:30 pm - Guided Relaxation Exercise Workshop
Rachel Warbet, LCSW, will lead an experiential exercise with visualizations and suggestions to induce relaxation and practice healthy breathing techniques.

Wednesday, November 10

3:00 pm to 3:45 pm - Caring for Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) Patients.
This session will discuss the challenges of caregiving for patients in the AYA population (18 to 49).

3:45 pm to 4:30 pm - Using Poetry as a Guide
In this session with Melissa Stewart, LCSW, you will be invited to explore your experience as caregivers through the lens of poetic images that evoke emotions and remind us of our shared humanity.

4:30 pm to 5:30 pm - Using Nature’s Gifts for Wellbeing
Sheila Felice, LCSW-R, and Emily Baldwin, LMSW, will lead a workshop for caregivers using creativity and mindfulness to promote wellness. You are encouraged to have scissors, paper (copy paper, construction, newspaper, magazine pages), and a writing implement available. These materials are not required for participation. Take this opportunity to relax and create!
