Disparities & Community Outreach

Katherine DuHamel, PhD, Acting Director

Increasing minority participation in clinical trials is a national issue and a priority area of concern for this institution. Overcoming cultural and institutional barriers to the participation of minority patients in clinical trials remains a central focus for several faculty members.

Drs. Duhamel and Massie are working with hospitals, health providers, and community organizations to develop a program of breast cancer awareness targeted to providing education to promote cancer detection among medically underserved women of color. Dr. Ahles is co-heading a collaborative research partnership with City College of the City University of New York (CCNY).
