The Sidney Kimmel Center for Prostate and Urologic Cancers was dedicated in 2001 as a freestanding building housing the Urology Service and Genitourinary Medical Oncology Service. This new facility, across the street from the MSKCC hospital and laboratories, provides patients with genitourinary cancers a full range of state of the art diagnostic services along with multispecialty consultations in surgery, medicine, and radiation oncology. Close collaboration among all specialists involved in caring for a particular patient allows for development of a comprehensive multimodality treatment plan. By providing clinical, academic, and research resources in the same building, the Kimmel Center fosters a high level of collaborative clinical research that translates into benefits for patients and for the urologic oncology fellows in training.

The Center houses all outpatient facilities for urology and genitourinary medical oncology as well as services for patient education, wellness, and prevention programs such as screening and early detection. The Kimmel Center includes examination and consultation rooms for surgical and medical oncology visits, an ultrasound and prostate biopsy laboratory, cystoscopy rooms, a video urodynamicsunit, radiation oncology consult services, and a chemotherapy infusion center for patients with urologic cancers. Directly across from the main hospital, the Kimmel Center allows patients easy access to MRI, CT, and other radiologic facilities at the main hospital.

The Center includes a state of the art conference room complete with telemedicine capabilities, editorial services, a grants management unit, clinical research support staff, and the Medical Informatics and Outcomes Research Service (biostatistics, datamanagement, and quality of life studies).
