Postdoctoral Research Award

Our postdoctoral researchers are recognized each year at Memorial Sloan Kettering’s Academic Convocation. Established in 2003, the Postdoctoral Research Award acknowledges the accomplishments and promise of outstanding postdocs (winners can be a Research Fellow, Research Scholar, or Research Associate). The award is presented at Memorial Sloan Kettering’s Academic Convocation (held in early May) and a prize of $2,000 is presented to each awardee. The recipients are chosen by the Memorial Sloan Kettering Awards Committee.

Nomination Criteria

  • The postdoctoral researcher must have completed at least one year of training at Memorial Sloan Kettering, as of the date of nomination.
  • The nominee should be a postdoctoral researcher both at the time of nomination and at the time the award is conferred.
  • The postdoctoral researcher should be a lead author on or have made a significant contribution to a publication.
  • The postdoctoral researcher must demonstrate distinctive promise for independent, creative research.

Nomination Process

A laboratory head may nominate only one Research Fellow, Research Scholar, or Research Associate from his or her laboratory each year.

A nomination letter from the lab head is required. The letter should include highlights of the postdoctoral researcher’s accomplishments and describe the significance of his or her research project. The letter should also discuss the postdoctoral researcher’s potential for future success as a creative, independent scientist.

Also required are the postdoctoral researcher’s CV and relevant publications. In-press publications may be included.
