The Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center Transitional Year Residency Program is a one-year internship designed to provide well-balanced graduate medical education in multiple clinical disciplines.
The program consists of 26 weeks of Internal Medicine inpatient service, four weeks of General Surgery, four weeks of Emergency Medicine, four weeks of Ambulatory Care clinic, 10 weeks of elective rotations, and four weeks of vacation.

When evaluating applications, the Recruitment Committee considers a broad range of factors. These include: academic performance during medical school, the Dean’s letter and other letters of recommendation, research experience, extracurricular activities, USMLE scores, and academic potential.

Memorial Hospital
Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center is a 434-bed tertiary care hospital with over 500 attendings in 12 departments. Although it specializes in cancer care, the hospital manages a broad range of nononcologic problems. The hospital has over 22,000 annual admissions and discharges, greater than 285,000 outpatient visits in Manhattan, more than 16,000 surgical procedures, and close to 350,000 radiology procedures performed yearly.
The Department of Medicine
The Department of Medicine has 150 attendings from over the various sub-specialities. The Division of General Medicine has ten subspecialty services including: Cardiology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Geriatrics, Infectious Disease, Integrative Medicine, Pain and Palliative Care, Pulmonary and Renal Medicine. There are seven Internal Medicine subspecialty fellowship programs represented at MSKCC, not including hematology and oncology.
Conferences
Department of Medicine conferences include daily bedside attending rounds, morning reports, core curriculum lectures series, chairman-led professor rounds, medical grand rounds and Journal Club. Other conferences in the various disciplines will be required as you rotate through the various departments.
