Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition Annual Review Course


The objective of this annual course is to offer gastroenterology practitioners a current and comprehensive review of gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition.  Its purpose is to provide updated knowledge and skill sets based upon current evidence-based practice and research related to the care of the GI/Hepatology patient.  Content is directed toward providing a basic review for the gastroenterology nurse wishing to certify and/or recertify their gastroenterology credential (CGRN), as well as for practitioners in the field of gastroenterology who want to keep their practice relevant and updated.  The course will discuss the challenges faced by the gastroenterology nurse in daily practice and offer insights into the achievement of excellence in delivery of care.

Course Objectives

  1. Comprehensive review of pathophysiology, disease etiology, and treatment of common gastroenterology, hepatology, and nutrition disorders with focus on nursing care.
  2. Provide a foundation of knowledge to prepare the RN practicing in areas with GI, Hepatology, and nutrition with the knowledge to pass the CGRN certification exam.
  3. Open forum with content expert RN’s and MD’s practicing at MSK.
  4. Case studies with review of nursing care considerations for safe practice within the GI/Hepatology patient population.
  5. Comprehensive review of each GI/Hepatology system organs with pathophysiology, etiology, and disease specific considerations related to nutrition and nursing care. 

Continuing Education Credit

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center - Nursing Professional Development/Continuing Education is accredited with distinction as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Contact hours will be awarded to participants who attend the entire program and complete a course evaluation.

Participants will receive a slide handbook with notes section for study materials after course.
