Reducing Overmedication: The Case With Proton Pump Inhibitors

Amy Linsky, MD, MSc, is a Fellow in General Internal Medicine at Boston Medical Center and at the Center for Organization, Leadership, and Management Research at VA Boston Healthcare System. Her research has focused on the quality of medication prescribing, with an interest in issues pertaining to medication discontinuation. She has also studied the health behaviors of cancer survivors and disparities in cancer screening. Dr. Linsky will present an overview of her work during her fellowship, including adverse outcomes associated with proton pump inhibitor use as well as patterns of proton pump inhibitor use in long-term care, and discuss directions for future investigations to reduce overmedication.
