The workshop is designed to provide faculty and staff with skills and knowledge to build a more supportive climate for LGBT co-workers, students and patients at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Weill Cornell Medical Center.
Recent reports by the Institute of Medicine on the Health Needs of the LGBT Community, Healthy People 2020 on LGBT Health Disparities, and the Joint Commission’s Standards and Recommendations for Improved Communication and Patient Care for the LGBT community are just a few of the newly released documents to support best practices in serving the LGBT community. Additionally, given the recent passage of gay marriage in New York State, institutions and their workforces must become better prepared at recognizing and addressing the needs of LGBT individuals and their families.
This course is directed towards all Physicians and Faculty at MSKCC and WCMC.
