Advanced Fellowship At MSK For Thrombosis and Hemostasis In Cancer

The Hematology Service at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) is taking applications for an advanced fellowship in thrombosis and hemostasis in cancer. This one-year fellowship will be a combination of clinical practice and research in the growing and academically important area of coagulation in cancer. The fellow will receive devoted clinical training within the Hematology Service, consisting of Gerald Soff, MD, and four other hematology attendings.

Clinical Practice

MSK is a top cancer center, and the fellow will participate in both inpatient and outpatient hematology consults. With time, the fellow will achieve expertise and progressively take on more autonomy, with the goal of being able to build an academic career in thrombosis and hemostasis in cancer.

In addition to supervised clinical practice, the fellow will participate in a weekly lecture series, covering the full spectrum of benign hematology. The Hematology Service also has weekly case conferences in which interesting or challenging cases are discussed among the faculty and others within the service.

The service has a number of active clinical research programs. These include the development and validation of the new direct oral anticoagulants for the treatment and prevention of thrombosis in people with cancer and the use of romiplostim (Nplate®) for the treatment of chemotherapy-induced thrombocytopenia. Other areas of research include the characterization of cancer mutations that influence the risk of cancer-associated thrombosis. The fellow will participate in ongoing clinical research projects and pursue a new research idea, if appropriate.
