MSK's Dental Service Aims to Make People Whole Again
The Dental Service in the Department of Surgery at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center offers a one-year fellowship in Maxillofacial Prosthetics. The Maxillofacial Prosthetic Fellowship is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation.
This certificate training program offers a well-balanced clinical and didactic experience in medically compromised patients undergoing radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and/or head and neck surgery for oncologic disease. The fellows are trained in all phases of maxillofacial prosthetics. Areas of comprehensive patient care and study include all phases of dental and maxillofacial prosthetic intervention (diagnosis, treatment, follow-up) for intraoral and extraoral rehabilitation of patients with acquired and/or developmental maxillofacial defects.
In addition, the fellow with be involved in the planning, placement, and restoration of endosseous implants placed in restored jaws for patients who have undergone segmental mandibulectomies for various oncologic diseases and osteoradionecrosis of the jaw.
Clinical and basic science research in the areas of oral manifestations of cancer therapies is another intergral part of the program. A second year in clinical research can be considered.

Eligibility
Candidates for Fellowship in Maxillofacial Prosthetics must have successfully completed a CODA-accredited advanced graduate education program in prosthodontics.
Candidates must have a license to practice dentistry in New York State by July 1 of their academic year. For information about dental licensure, please visit the license requirements page on the New York State Education Department website.
Only candidates with completed application packages will be considered for interviews.
