The Sidney Kimmel Center for Prostate and Urologic Cancers provides the following services for the comprehensive treatment of genitourinary cancers.

Cancer Detection, Screening, and Diagnosis

If you are concerned about your risk for developing prostate cancer, we offer detection services that include genetic counseling to help you evaluate your risk. Located within the Kimmel Center building, the John and Maxine Bendheim and Robert Bendheim Prostate Cancer Diagnostic Center welcomes men who are concerned about their prostate cancer risk or have a family history of the disease, a precancerous condition found by biopsy, or high levels of prostate specific antigen (PSA).

Medical Treatment

If you need medical treatment such as hormonal therapy, chemotherapy, , biologic therapy, targeted therapies, or other new investigational drugs, you will meet with your medical oncologist and receive treatments at the Kimmel Center. Your therapy suite will provide you with a private and comfortable location for treatment.

You are welcome to bring your family members and loved ones to help you pass the time.

Surgery, Radiation Therapy, and Focal Therapy

Memorial Sloan Kettering’s physicians are at the forefront of developing and applying innovative, high-precision treatments for genitourinary cancers. We have extensive experience in minimally invasive surgery, robotic surgery, brachytherapy, intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT), focal therapy, and other advanced techniques.

If surgery or radiation is part of your care, your treatment will take place at Memorial Sloan Kettering’s main hospital. In most cases you will be able to meet with your doctors for consultations and follow-up appointments at the Kimmel Center.

Sexual Health

If you have been diagnosed with a prostate or urologic cancer, you may be concerned about how the disease or its treatment could affect your sexual life. At the Kimmel Center, a specialized team of urologists, nurses, and social workers is available to help men and women address any sexual health concerns as they arise. We offer evaluation, diagnostic procedures, treatment, and rehabilitation, as well as counseling and other support services. Learn more about Memorial Sloan Kettering’s sexual health programs.

Some patients find it challenging to maintain a proper diet, manage their weight, or cope with changes in appetite and taste during and after cancer treatment. At the Kimmel Center, certified dietitian-nutritionists are available on-site to discuss dietary options and help you establish healthy eating habits.

Counseling and Support

The Kimmel Center’s team of psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers can help you address your psychological, social, and practical needs. Our counselors and support groups help individuals, couples, and families work through issues that arise during treatment. Learn more about Memorial Sloan Kettering’s Support Services.

In addition, current and former Memorial Sloan Kettering patients are available to speak with you as patient-to-patient volunteers, sharing their experiences and offering advice. Learn more about our Patient-to-Patient Support Program.

After your treatment is completed, the Kimmel Center offers comprehensive follow-up care and a range of services to promote wellness and cancer prevention. Your care team will identify and manage any side effects that result from your treatment, screen for a recurrence of your cancer or new cancer growth, and make referrals for other medical conditions. In addition, we provide education, support, and referrals for psychological and social concerns after treatment.

If you have been treated for prostate cancer, your follow-up care will be coordinated through the Prostate Cancer Survivorship Program.
