In December, Mark G. Kris, Chief of Memorial Sloan Kettering’s Thoracic Oncology Service, and Ann Culkin, a nurse on the Thoracic Oncology Service, received the Wholeness of Life Award 2011 from the HealthCare Chaplaincy. This physician-nurse team was recognized for balancing a commitment to scientific excellence with the compassionate care of people with lung cancer.

The HealthCare Chaplaincy is an organization that promotes research, education, and multifaith care and provides certified chaplains for more than a dozen hospitals in the New York City area. The Wholeness of Life Award honors individuals at its partner institutions who demonstrate exceptional respect for patients, families, and caregivers. Honorees are also recognized for promoting health of mind, body, and spirit, and valuing the entire care team in enhancing patients’ quality of life.
