Beatriz Korc-Grodzicki Named Chief of Geriatrics Service

Beatriz Korc-Grodzicki has been appointed Chief of the newly established Geriatrics Service in the Department of Medicine. The service will serve as the focal point for geriatric patient care, educational programs, and clinical research and provide leadership for a broadly based geriatric effort at Memorial Sloan Kettering.

Dr. Korc has expertise in the treatment of patients with multiple medical conditions and in the special health problems that become more frequent with age and can complicate the care of patients with cancer. She comes to Memorial Sloan Kettering from Mount Sinai School of Medicine, in New York, where she was Director of Clinical Services in the Brookdale Department of Geriatrics and Adult Development.

Dr. Korc received her MD degree from the University of the Republic, in Uruguay, in 1983 and her PhD from the Weizmann Institute of Science, in Israel, in 1989. She completed a postdoctoral research fellowship at the University of Rochester School of Medicine in 1994, followed by a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in geriatric medicine there. She was an attending physician in internal medicine at Strong Memorial Hospital and Highland Hospital, and an attending physician in geriatric medicine at Monroe Community Hospital, all in Rochester. She joined the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in 2004.

Dr. Korc will work in collaboration with members of the 65+ Program and will develop standards and new approaches to the care of geriatric inpatients and outpatients. She also will be available for inpatient and outpatient geriatric consultations.

I would like to express my deep sympathy and appreciation of Dr. Biatriz Korc. She has made impossible yesterday and helped me tremendously by organizing the appointment with dermatologist on emergency basis and saving me from extra visit that is so hard for me to do under the current condition.
Dr. Korc, you are golden. Thank you very very much!
