Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) in New York City is one of the world’s premier cancer centers, committed to exceptional patient care, leading-edge research, and superb educational programs. The blending of research with patient care is at the heart of everything we do. The institution is a comprehensive cancer center whose purposes are the treatment and control of cancer, the advancement of biomedical knowledge through research, and the training of scientists, physicians, and other health care workers.

We seek a postdoctoral fellow in cancer epidemiology and/or pharmacoepidemiology to join the team of Dr. Margaret Du and Dr. Elizabeth Kantor in the Epidemiology Service. The fellow will spearhead a multi-disciplinary NCI-funded project using SEER-Medicare data to conduct a methodologically innovative hypothesis free drug-wide scan (‘DWAS’) to detect novel associations between prescription drugs and risk of digestive cancers. The fellow will also have opportunities to lead a wide breadth of population-based research to reduce the burden of breast, colorectal, endometrial, and pancreatic cancers. The fellow will be an active member of cross-disciplinary research teams as well as publish peer-reviewed work, present at scientific conferences, and gain experience in grant writing.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A doctoral degree in epidemiology or related quantitative discipline, including but not limited to biostatistics, public health, or health outcomes/pharmaceutical outcomes research.
  • Enthusiasm and creativity for understanding cancer epidemiology, pharmacoepidemiology, and/or epidemiologic methods.
  • Experience with claims-based data (or enthusiasm to learn).
  • Peer-reviewed publications in epidemiology or related quantitative field.
  • Strong understanding of quantitative methods, study design, data analysis, and interpretation.
  • Comfort working with large data sets and proficiency in a statistical programming language, including but not limited to R, SAS, or Stata.
