Moritz Kircher, MD, PhD, has been selected by the directors of the Dana Foundation as a Dana Neuroscience Scholar. Dana Neuroscience Scholars are new-career investigators who have shown exceptional promise during their training and in their early research.

This distinction is Dr. Kircher’s second award from the Dana Foundation. In September 2011 he received a Dana Foundation grant for his project “A dual-modality molecular imaging strategy for combined pre-and intraoperative imaging in gliomas.”

In his research, Dr. Kircher is developing novel nanoprobes for molecular imaging, image-guided therapy, and theranostics. His laboratory’s goal is to develop a technology that can be used to determine the total tumor burden in a patient before, during, and after treatment. This includes potentially being able to precisely detect tumors during neurosurgery for glioblastoma.

The Dana Foundation is a private philanthropic foundation that supports research on the brain and works to educate the public about the findings of brain research and their implications.
