Memorial Sloan Kettering has announced the creation of the Louis V. Gerstner, Jr. Young Investigators Fund and has named the fund’s first four recipients. They are Timothy Chan, of the Human Oncology and Pathogenesis Program and the Department of Radiation Oncology; Stephen Long, of the Structural Biology Program in the Sloan Kettering Institute; Hans-Guido Wendel, of Sloan Kettering Institute’s Cancer Biology and Genetics Program; and Iestyn Whitehouse, of Sloan Kettering Institute’s Molecular Biology Program.

The fund was established with a donation from Louis V. Gerstner, Jr., the Vice Chairman of Memorial Sloan Kettering’s Boards of Overseers and Managers.

The goal of the fund is to provide talented young scientists in the crucial early stages of their careers with the resources they need to undertake projects that might not attract funding from other sources. Through its support for exceptional young investigators who have already demonstrated a commitment to careers in research, the fund is designed to help these scientists achieve significant breakthroughs much more quickly than would otherwise be possible.
