Full Title

Identifying and Measuring Depression in Older Cancer Patients

Purpose

Depression is not uncommon among people with cancer and among older individuals. In this study, researchers want to learn more about how to identify and measure depression in older people with cancer. They hope to use the results of this research to develop better ways to diagnose and treat depression in older cancer patients.

Patients will be asked to participate in two interviews about how the cancer diagnosis has affected their mood and their view of life, and general questions about their day and how they are feeling. Some participants will also be asked to complete a questionnaire about depression in older patients with cancer and to provide feedback about the questions.

Who Can Join

This study includes people age 70 and older who are in active treatment for cancer or who completed cancer treatment within six months of entering the study. Participants must be able to understand and communicate in English.
