MSK nurse practitioner Susan J. McCall

As a nurse practitioner on Memorial Sloan Kettering’s Lymphoma Service, I work with adults undergoing treatment for Hodgkin lymphoma and non-Hodgkin lymphoma. In collaboration with physicians, I help coordinate the care required for patients who will be receiving high-dose chemotherapy and autologous stem cell transplants. I also care for patients during the post-transplant period.

Many of my patients are also enrolled on clinical trials; I work with the physicians to help coordinate the treatment schedule. I am able to perform physical examinations, generate  prescriptions, and provide education to the patient and family members about the transplant process.

I joined Memorial Sloan Kettering in 2006 as an outpatient chemotherapy nurse. I enjoyed the rapport I developed with my patients as they moved along in their treatment trajectory, and I was fascinated by the mechanism through which chemotherapy cures lymphoma. After gaining experience in our Urgent Care Center, I accepted my current position so that I could contribute to a team with growing research and treatment options for patients.

I participate in many of the nursing education initiatives within the hospital, including chemotherapy education. I am also on the faculty at various universities, for whom I provide preceptorship to nurse practitioner students who are completing their clinical rotations.
