Soft Tissue Sarcoma Follow-Up Care

Sarcoma nurse Alayna Watkins meets with a patient

Once you have completed treatment for soft tissue sarcoma, you'll stay in close touch with your care team.

Once you have completed treatment for soft tissue sarcoma, your doctors will want you to come back for regular appointments so we can monitor you for side effects of treatment and signs that the cancer has returned.

These checkups may include a physical exam, X-rays or other imaging tests, and biopsies.

Soft tissue sarcoma tends to recur within the first three years after treatment. After five years, it is uncommon for soft tissue sarcoma to come back. At MSK, we usually monitor people for at least ten years and often for life. This approach enables us to keep you healthy by acting quickly if we see any signs of the disease returning.

If you had a large sarcoma or an aggressive type of sarcoma, we may recommend more frequent checkups.
