Uterine (Endometrial) Cancer Treatment

Share

Recent progress in the development of new tools and surgical techniques has transformed the treatment of uterine (endometrial) cancer, resulting in greater surgical precision and fewer complications overall. At Memorial Sloan Kettering, outcomes following surgery for recurrent or advanced-stage disease are among the best in the world.

For many women, our surgeons perform minimally invasive operations that enable you to return home the same or next day. Minimally invasive operations offer such benefits as decreased pain, improved cosmetic results, and a relatively fast recovery.

Getting a Second Opinion

Many women come to us for a second opinion following a diagnosis of uterine cancer. Our experienced team will review pathology slides, imaging tests, and other findings to help build a treatment plan customized to you.

Our innovative approach to identifying and removing only the necessary lymph nodes during surgery is an option that many women with early-stage uterine cancer select.

For women whose cancers are more advanced and require additional treatments following surgery, our medical oncologists are investigating chemotherapy regimens using novel drugs and drug combinations through our clinical trials.

We may also test cells to determine if they contain hormone receptors that may help slow the growth of cancer cells. For example, uterine cancers that contain receptors for progesterone tend to grow and spread more slowly than cancers without these receptors.

Preserving Fertility

In many cases, we also have options for women with uterine cancer who have not yet gone through menopause and who would like to consider becoming pregnant at some point. MSK fertility program specialists can provide options for taking steps to preserve fertility before undergoing treatment.
