The brachytherapy fellowship focuses on developing clinical expertise in brachytherapy for malignant diseases.

The staff in our Brachytherapy Service treats several hundred patients each year, therefore, there is a great opportunity to employ the breadth of brachytherapy techniques in a wide array of sites. These include treatments for head and neck, thoracic, gynecologic, gastrointestinal, breast, and ophthalmic cancers.

The prostate implant program, which includes Low Dose Rate (LDR) with intraoperative conformal planning and High Dose Rate (HDR) therapy, will be a significant component of the fellowship training program.

Our Brachytherapy Service has a dedicated operating room for intraoperative radiation therapy. This is where HDR intraoperative treatment is used for locally advanced colorectal malignancies and other solid tumors.

The fellow will coordinate the brachytherapy activity within the service, interact with surgical/medical oncology services, and will have opportunities to work closely with the Brachytherapy Physics Department. The fellow will also have the opportunity to perform clinical research during this period of time, as well as help coordinate prospective treatment protocols.
