Philipp Niethammer: Research Overview

Share

We study the chemical and physical mechanisms by which intact tissues detect wounds to initiate healing, inflammation, regeneration, and cancer. We address these mechanisms by quantitative imaging in various model systems including live zebrafish.

Scientific Image

We focus on the first signals that trigger inflammatory and regenerative mechanisms within seconds after injury.

Imaging Rapid Wound Detection in Translucent Zebrafish Larvae

How do white blood cells (left side, colored tracks) and epithelial cells (right, green/red fluorescence) rapidly detect wounds sites? We study the underlying mechanisms by imaging in live zebrafish larvae.
