What I love most about being an oncologist is caring for patients and being a part of their lives. I think it's incredibly humbling and inspiring and really a privilege to be a part of their story.
My name is Anita Kumar. I'm one of the attending physicians on the lymphoma service here at Memorial Sloan Kettering.
My father, who is a physician and a scientist, inspired me to become a doctor. Being a physician really allowed me to marry a love for science with a deep commitment for making a positive impact in patients' lives.
The first meeting with a patient is one of the most important interactions I have. My goal is to create an environment in which a patient feels reassured, comfortable, and listened to, where their unique hopes and needs and experiences are really heard.
It's really amazing to be part of this team and to be inspired at work every day by the examples of my colleagues and what everybody is trying to achieve together.
