Abraham (Abe) Sandel IV is an Assistant General Counsel in the Office of Technology Development.  He is a member of OTD’s Contracts unit and started working at OTD in 2013.

Abe works with Shilpi Banerjee, MSK’s Chief Intellectual Property Counsel, to share the responsibility of providing legal support to MSK on all intellectual property-related matters. Some of his specific responsibilities include overseeing the non-clinical research contracts unit, negotiating research contracts, advising OTD’s business and licensing teams on a wide range of transactional matters, and assisting with the management of intellectual property-related litigation.  He also advises other departments (such as Development, Procurement, and Core Facilities) on inquiries and transactions that might impact MSK’s intellectual property.

Before joining OTD, Abe served as an Assistant General Counsel in Memorial Sloan Kettering’s Office of the Corporate Secretary. Previously, he served as a Law Clerk in MSK’s Office of the General Counsel (2011-2012), a Clinical Research Assistant (2006-2008), and a Session Assistant (2005-2006). His professional experience also includes working with The Stuart H. Smith Law Clinic and Center for Social Justice in New Orleans (2010-2011) and the Orleans Parish Public Defenders Office (2008-2009).

Abe is a registered patent attorney. He received his JD from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law in 2011 and passed the Patent Bar in 2014. He received his BS in microbiology from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, in 2003.
