I am interested in understanding the role of the tumor microenvironment in disease progression. My goal is to understand how tumor cells educate immune cells to generate pro-tumorigenic phenotypes. A life doing research such as this can be very rewarding. The flexibility in hours and work schedule can be wonderful but can also lead to very long days. Collaborating with friends and colleagues at Gerstner Sloan Kettering is easily the best part. I find that most of my really good experiments benefited from seeking out friends who taught me how a technique worked or helped me utilize a biological system to address my question. These interactions turn what can be an isolating job into a rich, fun experience.
