Coping with a Mother’s Diagnosis: An Adolescent’s Perspective

Danielle Dankner was 11, and her sister was only 8, when their mother told them she had been diagnosed with breast cancer. Danielle says she appreciated her mother’s openness, and armed herself with information about breast cancer. Although her sister was too young to understand her mother’s illness, she later started an organization called Teens for the Cure, which offers peer-to-peer emotional support for teens affected by breast cancer.
