Effects of Cancer Treatment on Fertility

While several factors can influence a woman’s fertility – including age, obesity, and nicotine use – cancer treatment has the most significant impact on fertility, says Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center fertility specialist Joanne Frankel Kelvin. Some women may be able to conceive naturally after cancer treatment, but approaches such as surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy can impair a woman’s reproductive system and make conception more difficult or impossible.
