Memorial Sloan Kettering surgeons participate in a panel discussion of the latest advances in head and neck cancer treatment.

Jatin Shah discusses the possible link between HPV (human papillomavirus) and head and neck cancers. While HPV has been around for decades, its implication on the development of head and neck cancers is a relatively new area of study.

He says that while they don’t know for sure yet that HPV is a direct causative agent of head and neck cancers, there are many theories being explored. Right now there is research being conducted to determine whether there is a link between HPV and other viruses such as Epstein-Barr and the development of head and neck cancer.
