Medical experts from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center say that PSA (prostate-specific antigen) testing remains the number one way to diagnose prostate cancer. PSA, which is made by the prostate, normally increases with age but is not a specific marker for prostate cancer. New tests are being developed to look for genetic mutations only found in prostate cancer. Researchers at Memorial Sloan Kettering are developing a new diagnostic test that examines the genetic characteristics of a tumor to identify cancers that need more-aggressive treatment.
