Screening for Post-Transplant Changes

The conditioning regimens that patients undergo before transplantation can sometimes damage the organs, bones, and muscles or cause secondary cancers. Patients are carefully screened for these problems at their post-transplant checkups, says Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center post-transplant specialist Christine Iovino, RN. She discusses the specific causes of these problems, how post-transplant teams and other caregivers screen for them, and how each is treated.
