My research has also covered different clinical aspects of breast cancer in minority populations in the US, quality of care in surgery, and breast cancer in men, and I have written more than 55 book chapters, manuscripts, and editorials on these subjects. I am a reviewer for and sit on the editorial boards of many leading medical journals.
I was the one of the principal investigators who validated the applicability of the National Surgical Improvement Program (NSQIP) in the private sector, which has since been adopted by the American College of Surgeons as a yardstick for quality improvement. I am one of the founding members of the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers and have been serving on their board of directors and as a chair of the information technology and quality improvement committee.
I am an active member of many leading professional societies including the American College of Surgeons, the Society of Surgical Oncology, the American Society of Breast Surgeons, and the American Society of Breast Diseases. I am currently the Program Chair for the 2011 meeting of the American Society of Breast Surgeons. I also served as President of the New York Metropolitan Breast Cancer Group from 2009 to 2010.
