Yukio Sonoda, MD, FACOG, FACS

I am a board-certified gynecologic oncologist who specializes in the surgical treatment of known or suspected tumors of the female genital tract. I work as part of a multidisciplinary team of doctors and nurses who care for women with cancer. My areas of expertise include surgery for cancers of the ovary, endometrium, cervix, vulva, and vagina. I have a special interest in the use of minimally invasive techniques for the treatment of these tumors.

I spent a year in France training with some of the pioneers of advanced laparoscopic and radical vaginal surgery. One of the procedures that I learned is radical vaginal trachelectomy — a fertility-sparing procedure intended for women diagnosed with early cervical cancer. I am also developing new applications for robotic surgery in the field of gynecologic oncology.
