Clinical Nutrition (M-125)

Department
Medicine
Description

This elective provides an opportunity for students to join with attending physicians, fellows, residents, dietitians, nurses, and pharmacists in a very active consultative service encompassing various aspects of clinical nutrition, with emphasis on total parenteral nutrition, tubefeeding, and problems in malabsorption and malnutrition.

A multidisciplinary team approach is utilized within a centralized clinical nutrition team. Approximately 15 new patients per week are seen in consultation with a total daily follow-up of 40 to 50 in all departments. Daily rounds are made with the clinical nutrition team, and there are frequent conferences and a journal club. There is a weekly clinic at which the majority of patients seen have malnutrition and malabsorption and where patients on home TPN are followed.
