There is a significant, ongoing need for blood and blood products at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Because there is no substitute for human blood, the generosity of blood donors helps to ensure that we maintain an adequate supply for our patients.
Giving just one pint of your blood can help save lives, and it only takes about an hour.
The donation process is simple. You may be eligible to donate blood if you:
- are at least 16 years old and have written parental consent. No parental consent is required for those who are at least 17 years old.
- weigh at least 110 pounds
- are in good health
- have identification showing your name and photograph or signature
Donations of whole blood and platelets are needed every day -- red blood cells can be stored for 42 days and platelets for 5 days -- and you can donate blood to a specific patient. For more information or to make an appointment, please call our Blood Donor Room at 212-639-7643.
