We are a basic research laboratory that studies the structural, biochemical, and functional basis for macromolecules involved in post-translational protein modification by SUMO, an ubiquitin-like protein modifier, and pathways that contribute to co-transcriptional RNA maturation and post-transcriptional RNA decay. In addition to our structural studies, our main areas of interest focus on how these pathways contribute to signaling, cell cycle control, nuclear localization, and control of RNA metabolism. We are particularly interested in learning how these pathways contribute to cell growth and disease.
