Movement is an important part of your health and well-being, especially when recovering from an illness or treatments such as surgery, says Donna Wilson, RN, an exercise specialist with Memorial Sloan-Kettering’s Integrative Medicine Service. Coordinating your breathing with each exercise increases oxygen flow and strengthens muscles. She demonstrates a variety of simple exercises to strengthen major muscle groups and boost your heart rate. These exercises can be performed while sitting in a chair or at the edge of your bed, or while holding light weights.
