I am a board-certified psychiatrist whose expertise focuses on the psychiatric aspects of pain, symptom control, and palliative care in cancer patients. I have been Chief of the Psychiatry Service at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center since 1996 and Vice Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences since 2009, and currently serve as Chair of the Department. I provide individual interventions to patients, couples, and family members. In addition, I am the psychiatric liaison to the Hepatobiliary Disease Management Team and the Palliative Medicine Service. I am also a member of the Brain Tumor Center faculty.

I am a clinical chemist in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. As a clinical chemist, I am responsible for ensuring that tests performed on blood and other body fluids in the clinical laboratories at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) are completed and properly interpreted. Although my work happens behind the scenes, the test results generated by our laboratories are vital to patient care; they help our clinicians make accurate diagnoses and develop optimal treatment plans for their patients. In addition to providing oversight of MSK’s clinical laboratories, I consult with clinicians to answer questions about test results and guide the selection of the most appropriate tests to diagnose or monitor a patient’s condition.
