Robert A. Lefkowitz, MD

About Me

I am a board-certified radiologist who specializes in sarcomas and retroperitoneal tumors, orthopedic imaging, and urologic imaging. I have been practicing radiology at MSK since 2000.

I serve on the Gastric and Mixed Tumor Service Disease Management Team. I have a particular interest in retroperitoneal and soft tissue tumors. These include retroperitoneal liposarcomas, gastrointestinal stromal tumors, myxofibrosarcomas, and desmoid tumors. Since MSK is a leader in treating sarcomas and other soft tissue tumors, I have become very familiar with many of these rare tumors.

I have participated in research projects to study these tumors and am an investigator in many related clinical trials. I am a member of the medical advisory board for the Desmoid Tumor Research Foundation. I am also the national study chair for imaging in an organization that is overseeing a phase III clinical trial of sorafenib (Nexavar®) in people with desmoid tumors.

I also have years of expertise in bone, renal, and adrenal tumors. I am a member of the Orthopedic and Urologic Disease Management Teams.

At MSK, I enjoy working with renowned surgeons and medical oncologists. I appreciate presenting cases at disease management team meetings and consulting with these doctors on CT and MRI examinations for our patients.

Clinical Trials

As home to one of the world’s top cancer research centers, Memorial Sloan Kettering is typically involved in more than 900 clinical trials at a given time. Currently, clinical trials focused on the conditions I treat are enrolling new patients. Most major health insurers offer plans that include MSK as one of their in-network providers. If MSK is in-network, it means all our doctors are too. Medicaid and New York State Medicare also provide benefits for care at MSK.
