I am a thoracic surgeon who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with cancers of the lung, airways (trachea, bronchi), esophagus, mediastinum, chest wall, and pleura (malignant pleural mesothelioma). I have 25 years of experience as a thoracic surgeon, and was among the first women in the country to be board certified in this specialty.

Soy una cirujana de tórax que se especializa en el diagnóstico y tratamiento de pacientes con cáncer pulmonar, vías respiratorias (tráquea, bronquios), esófago, mediastino, pared torácica y pleura (mesotelioma pleural maligno). Tengo 25 años de experiencia como cirujana de tórax y estuve entre las primeras mujeres del país en obtener la certificación en esta especialidad.

I have dedicated my life’s work to the surgical treatment of children with brain and spinal disorders. I am internationally recognized for my deep experience in challenging surgeries. These include removing tumors near the spine and in the ventricles of the brain (called intraventricular brain tumors); managing tumors in the pineal gland, also in the brain; treating congenital cysts, which are present in the body at birth; and correcting Chiari malformation, a condition in which tissue from the brain extends into the spinal canal. I perform about 300 surgeries each year; many of them are minimally invasive.

He dedicado el trabajo de mi vida al tratamiento quirúrgico de niños con trastornos cerebrales y de columna. Soy reconocido internacionalmente por mi profunda experiencia en cirugías desafiantes. As a hospitalist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, I provide compassionate and comprehensive care (care for the whole patient, not just their medical and physical needs) to patients who are hospitalized.

I am a pediatric intensivist, which means that I specialize in the care of critically ill children. I have specific experience in caring for children who have cancer, especially when they become seriously ill. My areas of expertise include respiratory failure, shock, and neurologic emergencies.   My research focus is on pediatric delirium. Delirium is an acute change in thinking and awareness due to underlying illness; children with cancer are at risk. By detecting and treating delirium, we can improve the care we provide to pediatric patients at Memorial Sloan Kettering.

Soy intensivista pediátrica, es decir, me especializo en el cuidado de niños gravemente enfermos. Tengo mucha experiencia en el cuidado específico de niños con cáncer, especialmente cuando están graves. Mis áreas de experiencia incluyen insuficiencia respiratoria, shock y emergencias neurológicas.   Mi investigación se centra en el delirio pediátrico. El delirio es un cambio grave en el pensamiento y en la razón debido a una enfermedad latente. Por ello, los niños con cáncer están en riesgo. Al detectar el delirio, podemos mejorar el cuidado que brindamos a los pacientes pediátricos del Memorial Sloan Kettering.
