What is NYC Care?
NYC Care is a program that offers healthcare at low or no cost to you. NYC Health + Hospitals offers healthcare services to New Yorkers who can’t afford health insurance.
You Are Eligible If:
- You have lived in New York City for 6 months or longer.
- You don’t qualify for any health insurance plan in New York State.
- You can’t afford health insurance.
With NYC Care, You Can:
- Get a membership card to access health care at NYC Health + Hospitals locations across the city.
- Choose your own healthcare provider.
- Get preventive care (such as vaccines), and screenings (such as mammograms) to stay healthy.
- Get mental health support and substance abuse services (such as help quitting smoking and drinking).
- Get your first appointment in 2 weeks or less.
- Get access to low-cost prescription drugs day or night.
Steps for Getting NYC Care
Step 1: Confirm You Are Eligible

If you have questions, email [email protected] and they will reply within 2 days (48 hours).
Step 2: Connecting with NYC Care
- During the call, they will ask you to answer a few questions. You will be able to schedule an appointment with a provider at a nearby NYC Health + Hospital site.
- You will be transferred to a financial counselor.
- If you are eligible for NYC Care, the financial counselor will start your application. If you are not eligible, they will talk about other available services.
- The financial counselor will give you an email address and instructions for sending documents to that address.
Step 3: Documents You Must Send
- Proof of Identity (driver’s license, passport, foreign ID, green card, visa, birth certificate, or school ID).
- Proof of income (paystubs, letter from employer, or pension letter).
- Proof of address (electric bill, gas bill, internet bill, lease, or mortgage statement).
