Continued improvements in cancer care and a desire to get patients back home faster mean more and more people are being treated as outpatients. This includes those who are receiving intensive treatments like bone marrow transplants (BMTs), as well as leukemia and lymphoma patients.
Although they are being treated as outpatients, these patients still need a more thorough level of care. MSK is developing a new residence located at 411 East 75th Street to provide reasonably priced housing for BMT and leukemia and lymphoma patients near our comprehensive cancer care services. It will be designed to be calming and restorative and hold 25 apartments, including a mix of studios, one bedrooms, and two bedrooms.
Lodging will be provided to patients and their caregivers as medically needed. On the first floor, they will have access to a meeting room/lounge, outdoor courtyard, and concierge. In addition to two first-floor units, there will be apartments on floors two through seven.
Features of the MSK Patient Residence include:
- a kitchenette and full bathrooms with showers
- free in-room wifi access
- in-room laundry facilities
MSK has owned the building since 2002 and will renovate the existing structure. Gilbane Construction is the construction management company for this project, which began in May 2016 and will continue through the end of the year.
